Cutty Sark In Full Sail by davidreevespayne1 Cutty Sark In Full Sail by davidreevespayne1
Oil on box canvas
Painted as a present for my wife in tribute to her great great grandfather, who was the last Captain of the famous Cutty Sark. The famous tea clipper is now a tourist attraction based in Greenwich South East London. The original painting hangs pride of place in our home, hope you like.

congrats- definitely great art including the sinking sun touching the waves - plus telling a Story !
once being at the age of 12 I discovered all the stuff about Cutty Sark in our local library. In particular is was one "Trip Report" by a author or Journalist who travelled with it around during the big "Tea races" and who´s name unfortunately I can´t remember.
It moved me so much this was one of the few ships that dared the extremely dangerous Kap Hoorn circumnavigate and a death toll of 2 or 3 sailors fallen from the spreader bars while hissing sails in stormy weather, was called "unfortunate but common". it inspired me then to do some sailship drawings, too, though not as gorgeous like the one above. :-)
Am I right, that Cutty Sark in the 1950ties sunk on a "Retro trip" but was restored and is in a Museum today ?

Hi, thanks for the message, to my knowledge the Cutty Sark never sank. The original ship was moored in dry dock in Greenwich, London. It recently had a fire but everything was saved and it was restored. It still remains in its London spot where it I a tourist attraction.

By the way !
A project has just been launched to try and rebuild the Cutty Sark, to make her sail again ! The guys behind it are the team who built the beautiful Shtandart and are currently busy with the Poltava (1712).
Check it out, and spread the word!

This is beautiful!  I've always been rather fond of the Cutty Sark because my Dad made a model of it when I was a little girl.  I'm quite sure he would love this painting:-)
